Prepare your application

An essential component of an internship/job application is the resume. We highly recommend using one of the following two templates for building your resume:

Resources provided by CodePath:

Search for opportunities

Where to find internships and jobs?

  • Careers page on companies' websites

  • Job boards: LinkedIn, RippleMatch, Untapped, Glassdoor, Handshake

  • Conferences & career fairs

  • CS communities' Slack or Discord: #opportunities channel

Apply

> If a job description fits your interest but you find yourself not proficient in all of the programming languages that they list...

... just apply!

Most people don't study for a specific combination of technologies that a company uses. There are a wide variety of technologies, and no company uses the exact same tech stack as another. Therefore, the chances that a company finds someone who knows ALL of their tech stack are not really high. As long as you know at least one or two of the programming languages or technologies listed on the description, you should be good to go. It is much more important that you show the company your ability to adapt and learn quickly.

> If you think you need more time to sharpen your coding skills before you are ready for the technical interview...

... just apply!

Nobody comes to an interview feeling100% confident that they will get the job. If you wait until you are "ready", chances are that someone else has already applied earlier and moved forward in the application process. Even if you need time to brush up on your skills and knowledge, just apply right away because you still have time while waiting for recruiters to review your resume.

Where to practice mock interviews:

  • Pramp

  • interviewing.io

  • Sign up for a mock interview with volunteers/carer coaches from CodePath, etc.

  • Ask your friend/professor/...

  • Practice your answers in front of a mirror
